Karma for the Kama Sutra…

The WSOP has become the NASCAR of the poker world, having its signage, tables and even players plastered with company logos and slogans. Beef jerky has brought us pocket cams and erectile dysfunction pills have brought us instant replays, but this new sponsorship takes the cake – Dearfoams slippers. Yes, slippers.

Dearfoams will be the sponsor of the 2011 WSOP and will provide free slippers for all entrants. Apparently 2010 WSOP Main Event Winner Jonathan Duhamel inspired the team-up by wearing flip flops throughout his championship run. WSOP Vice President Ty Stewart explained in a press release, “we have partnered with Dearfoams – who make the world’s most comfortable slippers – so players can now feel truly comfy as they pursue their dreams of winning the WSOP and going on to live a life of leisure where it will be appropriate to wear Dearfoams slippers 24/7.”

I bet the players hope next year will be sponsored by La-Z-Boy and Heaven on Earth massage parlour.

Patrick Antonius’ time atop the online earners for 2011 didn’t last long – Gus Hansen saw to that. The man that Antonius unseated stormed ahead this week, earning $1,166,372 in 6,642 hands over 52 sessions. Antonius did his part to fall behind Hansen, dropping $1,306,406 in 4,112 hands over just 30 sessions, finding himself plummeting to eighth spot on the list.

Cole South and Viktor Blom posted successful weeks, racheting up their earnings by besting “Esvedra” and Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane, respectively. The top online earners list now looks like this: Gus Hansen with $3,993,460, Daniel “jungleman12” Cates with $1,952,000, Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane with $1,789,000, NoPasaran with $1,616,000, Matt Hawrilenko with $1,440,000, bixiu with $1,406,000), Phil Ivey with $1,336,000 and Patrik Antonius with $1,157,000.

Tom Dwan has the unfortunate honour of topping the year’s loser list, with $2,474,000.

The brand spanking new Federated Sports + Gaming (FS+G) professional poker league has named it’s committee for Standards and Conduct, which is in charge, according to a press release, of ensuring “fair play, good character and integrity in every aspect of the league’s operation.”

League founder and Commissioner Annie Duke will serve on the committee as a non-voting member, and the seven voting members will be prosEric Baldwin, Andy Bloch, Chad Brown, Joe Hachem and Nick Schulman, Poker Tournament Director Matt Savage and Stephen Martin, a professional ethics advisor.

The Committee Members will be responsible during their two year term for  monitoring the league’s admission process and league member qualification procedure, developing the league’s tournament rules, the continuing eligibility of players, maintaining credibility and integrity and overseeing and enforcing the league’s Code of Conduct.

The WSOP announced via twitter it’s third grudge match set to take place June 2. The match was decided through fan vote, and the winner is Erik Seidel vs. Johnny Chan in a rematch of their 1988 WSOP Main Event face-off. The other two grudge matches will feature Phil Hellmuth vs. Johnny Chan in a 1989 WSOP Main Event rematch, and Chris Moneymaker vs. Sammy Farha in the rematch to the 2003 WSOP final. The grudge matches will be decided on June 2 and will air in two back-to-back episodes on ESPN on July 26.

Eric Seidel is having a career year. And that is saying something. Seidel defeated Erik Lindgren heads-up in the 100,000 buy-in Super High Roller Event to put another mark on a successful year. Thus far in 2011 the hall of famer has four wins and has earned $5.4 million. In February, he won the High Roller Event at the LA Poker Classic and the National Heads-Up Poker Championship in March, making him the leader in all-time tournament earnings.

The WPT title is Seidel’s second, and it goes along nicely with his eight WSOP bracelets. The win was made even more impressive by the company at the final table, which included Daniel Negreanu, Vivek Rajkumar and Justin Bonomo. Usually hall of famers kick back and enjoy the fruits of their labour, but for Seidel, he’s obviously nowhere done yet.

Patrik Antonius has eclipsed Gus Hansen for the lead in the online earners race, and he did it in one night! Antonius can thank Rui Cao, you graciously donated $792,000 over 1,404 hands of $500/$1,000 pot-limit Omaha. The impressive night brought in $1.16 million and with that, sits atop of the 2011 leaderboard with $2,817,540 in profit, passing Gus Hansen with $2,608,986.
Having good weeks, althought not as impressive as Antonius’, were LFmagic with $266,874, NoPasaran with $211,004, ZInsenamnn with $209,925), davin77 with$194,556 and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom with $189,450.

Daniel Cates has offered to stake someone’s buy-in to the WSOP Main Event in a viral-like stunt. According to Cates’ friend and fellow pro Kevin “Kevmath” Mathers, Cates is looking to gift a seat to a lucky person:

“I wanted to let you know that Daniel Cates decided to do something really nice. He is buying one person into the Main Event. He will be tweeting (@junglemandan) his location around Vegas at least once per week starting next week and running through June 25. People will pick up a ticket from him at each location and a winner will be drawn. It’s free to join, no sign-ups or anything and the only stipulation is that they can’t have played in the Main Event before. He is also throwing in lessons and best of all, not taking a percent from any of the winnings.”

This will no doubt start an enormous growth in Cates’ twitter followers!

Addictive personalities are obviously drawn to games like poker, but where does one draw the line? Here are the Great 8 signs that poker is taking over your life…

1. You consider yourself running “light dead” when stuck in traffic.

2. You introduce yourself as your GR88 online handle.

3. You call time on someone who takes too long to tell a story.

4. You refer to a date as being “heads-up.”

5. You accuse the cashier at McDonalds of bluffing you.

6. When asked how your day is going, you say you are feeling “a little on tilt.”

7. You mute the TV and provide your own commentary for High Stakes Poker.

8. Playing the lottery, you wait until the last number to see how it will “play out on the river.”
